TRAINING INFORMATION

Training sessions are held every week on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Please see specific times below for group lessons (Beginners, Adults, Footwork, Advanced Juniors, Children and Children Beginners), Individual lessons, general/social fencing and Lightsaber.

Club open times for training and lessons:

  • Tuesdays - 6.30pm to 10.00pm
  • Thursdays - Not available at the moment
  • Saturdays - 9.30am to 5.00pm

Fencers who participate in the Adult, Advanced Juniors and Childrens classes are expected to have the Basic Kit. See Basic Kit information below.

ADULT BEGINNERS' CLASS

We hold Beginners' classes for adults throughout the year. The next beginners class will start on Tuesday date to be determined. .

When:
  • Tuesdays 6.30pm to 7.15pm
Cost:
  • Ten lessons cost $200

If you are keen to start fencing lessons before the next Beginners Class starts, we have coaches who provide individual beginner lessons for $30.00 per lesson. As with the class lessons these are usually paid for in 10 lesson blocks. The individual beginners course is usually 12 x 30 minute lessons. Once you have completed the beginner course you can join the Tuesday 7.00pm adult class.

When:
  • Available on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
    Times of these will vary depending on availability of the coach.
Cost:
  • Ten lessons cost $300 - includes hire of equipment
  • $30.00 for one individual lesson - includes equipment hire

Due to COVID-19 restrictions we are unable to continue short term hire equipment for lessons. The club is offering a long term hire (10 to 14 weeks- length of beginner course) after which if you continue you will need to buy your own equipment and clothing. It will be a $100 deposit and $5 per lesson equipment hire. You will take the gear home for the duration of the course. You can either purchase the gear that you have using the deposit and pay the difference, buy your own gear using the refunded deposit and paying the difference or if not continuing, return the gear and the deposit will be refunded to you.
Costs:

  • Individual Lessons - $30- per lesson usually paid in 10 lessons blocks = $300. Paid to the coach
    or
  • Adult Beginner Course - $20 per lesson or $200 for the course of 10 to 14 lessons (paid to the coach)
  • $5 equipment hire per lesson usually paid in 10 lesson blocks = $50, Paid to The Swords Club
  • $100- equipment deposit for mask, jacket and breastplate (Compulsory for girls and women). This deposit is refunded once the beginner course has been completed and the equipment has been returned. Paid to The Swords Club
  • $30- for purchase of a glove.

ADULTS' CLASS

Adults' classes are run weekly for fencers who have completed the beginner's course or have experience in fencing and would like to learn more.(For ages 15 and over.)

You need to be a club member to join this class.

When:
  • Tuesday 7.30pm to 8.15pm
Cost:
  • $200 per term
  • $20 for one class lesson

Fencers in this class are expected to have the Basic Kit. See Basic Kit information below.

CHILDREN'S BEGINNER LESSONS

We start beginner children with 12 individual lessons so they learn enough to be able to join one of the junior/children's classes which are held on Saturdays.

Ten individual lessons cost $300 and they go for 20 to30 minutes each.

  • Available on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
    Times of these will vary depending on availability of the coach.

  • Ten lessons cost $300 - includes hire of equipment
  • $30.00 for one individual lesson - includes equipment hire

CHILDREN'S CLASS - (For children who have completed our beginner program.)

Children's classes are held every Saturday to give children a chance to learn and fence in a fun environment. (For children who have completed our beginner program or have previous experience in fencing.)

When:
  • Saturday 10.00am to 10.45am
  • Saturday 1.30pm to 2.15pm
Cost:
  • $200 per term
  • $20 for one class lesson

Fencers in this class are expected to have the Basic Kit. See Basic Kit information below.

ADVANCED JUNIORS CLASS

The Advanced Juniors classes are held every Saturday for junior fencers (U20).
To participate in this class your child's skill and experience level will need to be assessed.

When:
  • Saturday 12.00pm to 1.00pm
Cost:
  • $200 per term
  • $20 for one class lesson

Fencers in this class are expected to have the Basic Kit plus their own Electric gear. See Basic Kit information below.

INDIVIDUAL LESSONS

Individual lessons can be arranged with one of the coaches. Times of these will vary depending on availability of the coach.

When:
  • Available on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
Cost:
  • Ten lessons cost $300 - includes hire of equipment
  • $30.00 for one lesson - includes equipment hire
  • Cost can vary depending on the coach.

 

SOCIAL FENCING

General fencing and bouting is held during the week. It is open for anyone to come and have a hit. Please note that you can fence both non-electric and electric, but should bring along your own electric equipment as the club's supply is limited.

When:
  • Tuesday from 6.30pm
  • Saturday from 2.30pm
Cost:
  • TSC members can fence free of charge during these times.
  • Visitors fee $10 for non-members.
 

 

 

LIGHTSABER CLASSES

Learn the skills necessary to become a Jedi Knight by attending these lightsabre fighting classes. Basedon actual blade fightingthese interactive classes teach you the finer points of sword fightin so you can quickly advance from Padwan to Jedi Master.

In 2019 the French Fencing Federation (FFE) announced their rules for Lightsaber fencing.

Club coach, Stephen Lake, attended the first international workshop on Lightsaber fencing hosted by the FFE.

Adult classes - 17 and over

When:
  • Saturdays 4:00pm to 5:00pm for adults 17 and over
Cost:
  • $200 per term - includes hire of equipment

Children/young teens classes - 16 and under

When:
  • Saturdays 3.00pm to 4.00pm
Cost:
  • $200 per term - includes hire of equipment

BASIC KIT

Here is the basic kit list required to participate in the classes.

  1. Glove
  2. Mask
  3. Chest plate (compulsory for girls, optional for boys)
  4. Jacket
  5. Foil
  6. Underplastron (800N)

Start with a glove minimum and build up in the above order. If you have been in the classor fencng for 6 months or more, you are expected to have the full basic kit.

After a while, I recommend that you consider getting some electric equipment.

  • Electric foil and bodywire
  • Lame jacket (metallic jacket)

MEMBERSHIP

The Swords Club 2020 Membership fees are being collected now.
Membership for Club Members each calendar year (January to December).
2020 membership fees are as follows:

Seniors
$200 per annum
Juniors (Under 18)
$160 per annum
The Swords Club is now registered as an Active Kids provider

You can use the Active Kids voucher as part of your 2021 membership fee. To apply for the voucher, please visit https://www.service.nsw.gov. au/transaction/apply-active- kids-voucher . Please send a copy of the voucher together with the completed membership form. You just need to pay the balance of the Junior Membership fee (i.e., $60 for renewing members, $65 for new members).
