The first round of the U13 and Below Youth Club Competition was enjoyed by a number of our young fencers and the response and feedback was encouraging enough that we're running a second one.
Again, we are running this especially for our young fencers who don't have as much or any competition experience. It is hoped that a relatively gentle and friendly entry into the world of competition will make the experience more positive.
The second competition is scheduled on Sunday, 21 May. We encourage everyone up to the age of 13 to participate -- no experience required (in fact, little or no experience preferred)!
Details as follows:
Date: Sunday, 21 May 2017
Time: Check-in and registration closes at 8:30am; bouts start at 9:00am
Venue: The Swords Club, North Sydney Girls HS Gym
Format: Poules then Direct Elimination. Depending on the numbers, we will either have multiple rounds of poules or have DE bouts to determine as much places as possible.
Fee: $5 upon registration
Equipment: Bouts will be electric. A limited amount of electric fencing equipment is available at the Club but everyone is encouraged to get at least their own glove, plastron and jacket. Some second-hand gear will be available for purchase from the Club pool. Breeches are recommended (see if there are breeches from the Club that fit or you might want to check out the Club second-hand pool); otherwise, please wear thick trackpants.
We hope that this competition becomes a first (or second) positive experience for them. If you or your child has any questions or concerns, we encourage you to approach any of our coaches, Club committee members or any of the "older" (or rather, experienced) fencers and parents or drop me an email.
Thanks again and looking forward to seeing you and your child at the competition.

6 September 2015 : FIE #FENCINGMOB15 AND #FENCINGMOB - CELEBRATE FENCING WORLDWIDE
Over the weekend, some of our members took part in a fencing mob as part of FIE fencing celebrations across the world. The images were posted to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Some of the locations were truly spectacular, and it was nice to see our own Parliament House looking all the more impressive with some bouting taking place outside. 21 August 2015 : NSWFA - U15 STATE FOIL AND EPEE CLUB TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS - SUNDAY 25 OCTOBER 2015
In addition to the State Open Foil and Epee Club Team Championships, there will now be U15 Team Championships, which will be held on Sunday, 25 October.
The Swords Club will be putting forward as many teams as there are interested boys and girls who want to join. We can put in both foil and epee teams as we believe we will have enough boys and girls in both weapons. Under 13 fencers are also welcome to join the teams. This will provide them a good and fun opportunity to fence in a competition environment without as much pressure as individual competitions. The U15 Foil Team competition starts at 10am while the U15 Epee Team competition starts at 2pm .
Please send in your (or your child's) interest in joining the Swords Club teams by reply to this email as soon as possible so we can group the kids and send in our entries. If possible, we might even get the kids together to have some practice bouts.
Do drop us an email (theswordsclub@gmail.com) or via the Feedback and Enquires form on the "Contact Us" page, or approach anyone on the TSC Committee if you have any questions or concerns.
